WHAT IS BREATHWORK?

Many of us do not realize that Breathwork is different from “Long, Deep Breathing.” What makes Breathwork different is that it is one pattern or style of breath that you follow for 31-60 minutes in a private session and this pattern helps to bring a great deal of oxygen in to the body to reprogram how deeply we can breathe even AFTER the session. Breathwork sessions help to bring up to 40% more oxygen in to the blood! When we are breathing very shallow, as we do in times of stress or frustration, most of us are only using about 20% of our actual capacity. This is directly reflective in our realities: when we can start to use that full capacity, many different parts of us come back to life or wake up. Parts that are otherwise sleeping or closed off. Breathwork, in this way, helps us to step in to our greatest capacity/unlimited potential and step away from our patterns of fear and limited beliefs.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Breathwork works by the Practitioner guiding you in to a full, circular, diaphramtic breath that allows the body to come in to a higher frequency of being. This opens the breath, which opens the body, and creates the space for you to release all of the energy that feels “stuck” or “heavy” inside of you. Sound current is used to help release this energy. And poetic words or affirmations are used in order to help reprogram and clear out the subconscious mind. The subconscious rules a great deal of our reality and has a capacity: when it is full, we find it very hard to break thinking patterns and change our ways. This style of breath work is meant to clear out the subconscious in addition to oxygenating the body so that you can really clean the slate, or get a “whole house cleaning.”

But I do yoga. isn’t pranayama the same as breathwork?

There is most DEFINITELY a difference between Pranayama and Breathwork. While under the same sort of “Breathing” umbrella, Pranayama is typically a variety of different styles of breathing, all meant to help alter our state of mind. These benefits can range from gaining clarity, peace, joy, gratitude. However, Breathwork is like the King of Pranayamas. It is certainly a more masculine practice when it comes to Kundalini and Transformational Breathwork and it is intended to be this energetic in order to bring us closer to our own feminine energy. Breathwork and pranayama both help to alter our state of mind, however Breathwork is used to literally rewire the nervous system so that we can truly release all of the energy we hold and create more space for more goodness. The experiences tend to be profound and deep.

what can i experience in a breathwork session?

Intention setting is very powerful in Breathwork: what the individual experiences in a session may be entirely different than what another unique individual experiences, depending on what they are desiring or working through in their lives. Some may experience slight to intense physical sensations like tingling, heaviness, lightness, or vibration. Some may experience very mystical experiences. Some may feel buried emotion bubble up to the surface and experience the integration of this emotion so that you are actually able to RELEASE it once and for all. You will experience yourself. An expansion and awareness and even access to your higher consciousness. It all depends on the session and what you need to experience from it.

is breathwork a spiritual practice?

Many practitioners will claim to have a deep connection to their Spirit/Spirit in Breathwork. It helps us to achieve deeper states of meditation where we are able to perhaps “download” or “channel” clear images or messages that we need to hear to move forward in life. It does not have to be approached this way, and is still enjoyed by practitioners who claim to have no connection to spirit. However, if you are one seeking this connection, Breathwork strengthens our connection with Divine energy. It expands our awareness, and helps us to develop our own spiritual gifts. This allows for the energetic centers of the heart to open so that we can feel connected to others and live in joy: as happiness IS your birthright.

how do i know i am not hyperventilating?

Wonderful question! This is asked very often. The biggest difference between hyperventilation and having a Breathwork session with a Practitioner or Facilitator is that you are being trained on how to hyper-OXYGENATE. How do you know the difference between the two? When we are breathing from the belly, it means that the diaphragm (a fist shaped muscle between the low ribs that controls our breathing) is actually moving and working to get breath in to the body. This is when we build oxygen levels in the blood and body. When we are not breathing from the belly, it means the diaphragm is locked or not being used, and breath is only coming from the chest. Hyperventilating puts the body in Fight or Flight Mode. Hyper-OXYGENATING allows the diaphragm to release and relax so the body can breathe and release. This may be entirely new language or information to you which is again why it is so important and powerful to have a private session with a Breathwork Practitioner or Facilitator so that you are able to train the body to breathe properly and safely.

what are the five weeks of the breathwork immersion like?

I created the FIVE WEEK BREATHWORK IMMERSION because breathing the way we learn to do in Breathwork is very deep and can be achieved to make large and effective changes in your life if you do the sessions weekly in small groups. The FIVE WEEK BREATHWORK IMMERSION will consist of only 2-4 individuals (limited space because of depth we go to) who meet five Sundays in a row: June 2nd, June 9th, June 23rd, June 30th, and July 7th. We will meet from 1:00-3:00 pm at a beautiful private studio space in Pacific Beach, San Diego. The five sessions will each consist of Dream Work, Inner Child Work, Cutting Energetic Chords, Eliminating Limiting Beliefs, and Coaching Q&A’s via five Breathwork sessions. The actual sessions will consist of actual experience and specific reprograming of your breath via Body Mapping and Sound Healing in addition to “Affirmations” during the session, which helps to clear the subconscious mind to create space for what you actually want to bring in. The sessions will all offer follow-up emails and journaling/take home assignments to maintain consistency so that you can get the most from this powerful experience.
